As a recreational runner and cyclist, my workout buddies would joke that my favorite pace was "talking pace". I always struggled to enjoy swimming because having a morning chat is so hard in the water! I started teaching spin in 2014 when I moved to Boston to pursue my MBA. I love the energizing music, the pouring sweat and having the accountability to show up at a class. My classes are challenging but achievable, no matter where your base level is.
I've dabbled in my share of marathons, triathlons, and even an Ironman. These days, you'll find me chasing my 2 & 4 year old, trail running with my 2 dogs, or trying to corral my small flock of chickens. When I'm not teaching a morning class, I'm a nonprofit consultant working towards social and financial justice.
Pilates
with Jayne
Wednesdays - 5:30 PM
I have been a Pilates practitioner for many years. Most recently I have studied mat-based coursework with Master Trainer, Zayna Gold at Boston Body Pilates in Belmont, and completed my certification as a Balanced Body Pilates Mat Instructor.
I hold a Masters degree in Public Health from Boston University. I currently work as a Wellness Project Manager for the Massachusetts Municipal Association in Boston. I also hold a black belt in Kenpo Karate.
I have always been passionate about maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise, eating well, and managing stress, both for myself, and those around me. When I am not at work or teaching Pilates, I enjoy traveling to exotic places and spending time with my family and friends.

"70 percent of America's Annual Weight Gain Happens Over The Next 5-7 Weeks."
-Now is the time to double down on your training program. We can help you from being in the 70 percent!
We are honored to be a part of one of the essential parts of your fitness journey: program development. Your training goals and needs may be unique, so a custom approach to programming/training decisions needs to be unique. You will meet with a Thoreau Fitness staff member and complete the following:
1. Needs and Goals Review - Understanding your goals and current fitness needs are essential. We conduct a questionnaire to help you understand what you want from your program.
2. InBody - you can't manage what you don't measure. We use a world-class system to show you where you are so we can measure future progress. One of the best parts, it only takes about 45 seconds to complete to receive advanced outputs. This includes Water retention, visceral & segmental fat analysis, basal metabolic rate, and more.
3. Movement Screen - all exercises involve movement, and we don't always move the same. We take the most responsible approach in programming by reviewing your activity in a simple and non-invasive manner.
4. Experience Programming Framework - this is a hands-on workout to educate you on how an optimal training session should be completed.
5. Review - After these first four steps, we take some time to review everything and decide on your fitness path.

The Titleist Performance Institute has developed a streamlined method to determine how your physical strengths and weaknesses affect your golf swing. We use a 16-point movement analysis to measure hip and shoulder mobility, balance, and muscular activation. We then create a personalized program to increase power, mobility, and stability to help you hit the ball more consistently and to help keep your back feeling great all season.

Prevention Assessment
(30 minutes)
When the muscles in the shoulder move in a way that isn't natural due to compensation for a related problem, there is an increased risk of a shoulder injury. You will learn some of the best ways to bulletproof your shoulders from injuries! A functional movement screen includes overhead arm moves that can help a therapist or personal trainer identify and address dysfunctional movement patterns before an injury.
If you are interested in signing up for a screening, please get in touch with Fitness Director Brian Cioci – at [email protected]

This January, Kristen will be offering a Coconut Herbal Thai Ball Massage.
Members: $ 115
Non-members: $130
Thai herbal ball massage is a perfect add-on to a massage. It is a great way to relax and unwind your body and energize it fully. The massage combines traditional massage techniques enhanced with the addition of the Thai ball. Herbs such as ginger, turmeric, and lemongrass are wrapped in a muslin cloth and tied into a ball. The herbal ball is then steamed and used during your treatment. This particular herbal treatment also has the benefit of coconut oil in it. Which will help hydrate dry skin, and the coconut's soothing smell will help reduce stress.
