When I’m not at Thoreau, well, when exactly is that? Just kidding! When I’m not here, you can usually find me dashing off to spend time with my kids.
Let me introduce them to you: Maddi, my daughter, who graduated from the University of New Hampshire, traveled for the last few years, starting in Hawaii, then headed to Alta, Utah, Denali, Alaska, Rome, Italy, Melbourne, Australia, Ashville, NC and has just now settled in Portland, ME.
My son, Jake, graduated from Roger Williams with a degree in business finance, is living in the North End of Boston, and currently works for DFP Partners out of NYC.
Riley, my youngest, is a freshman at the University of Vermont and is adjusting well to college life. She’s keeping busy learning Italian and recently joined their Ski & Snowboard Club, which happens to be the largest collegiate Ski & Snowboard club in the country, with over 3,800 members.
Before becoming a part of The Thoreau Club staff, I dedicated the last two decades of my career to the outdoor apparel industry. During that time, I had the privilege to collaborate with remarkable companies such as Gore-Tex, Rail Riders Adventure Clothing, Reebok (Boston Whaler Division), and illumiNITE.
I take immense pride in our exceptional staff here at The Thoreau Club. We’ve taken significant steps to ensure that each member feels valued and appreciated. Whether it’s through our Member Services, Program Registration, or Membership Sales teams, our ultimate goal is to enhance your overall membership experience. I’m always open to feedback, so please feel free to stop by my office anytime.

I am native New Yorker, but have lived in Massachusetts since 2008. I have two boys, Aiden, 11 and Jackson, 8. In a past life I was an actor and have a BFA in Theatre to prove it. I am a huge movie buff, 4k tv and 7.1 surround sound is the only way I fly. And when it comes to music I am a huge Prince fan. I have been in the Fitness Industry since 1997 and have loved every second of it. I am really excited to be a part of the Thoreau Club family and I look forward to learning, contributing, and building with this wonderful community.

I am excited to be in a new role here at The Thoreau Club as a Membership Sales Representative. Overall, I have been a part of the Thoreau Club family for 2+years as a Member Service Representative. When I am not at the club, I can be found helping at local wrestling shows, on a walk, trying a new restaurant, or spending time with friends. I am a full-blown ice cream addict; I hate bugs and parallel parking. I love mermaids and music, preferably from the 90’s. Stop by the sales office any time for a chat, I welcome any restaurant recommendations!
Aquatics
Sam Gottlieb
Director of Aquatics
Sam Gottlieb, Director of Aquatics
Just another typical story of a guy from Southern California who starts lifeguarding, then packs up his family and moves across the country to New England. You’ve probably heard it a thousand times…
My family and I love to explore the outdoors. From short nature walks to long camping trips, we are most content when we have dirt under our feet. My wife and I enjoy swimming and running, though she is much more proficient at both. My son, Caden, loves building things and making up silly stories. His little sister Ellery has a rotating wardrobe of all things bright pink and Disney princesses, with accessories to match.
Coming from the non-profit realm of Aquatics, I have experience managing a wide spectrum of activities ranging from B2B swim lesson partnerships to specialized staff development programs. With a degree in Integrated Marketing Communications, the Aquatics Director position provides a unique opportunity to blend my lifelong joy of swimming with the business acumen I have developed over the last decade in the industry. The Thoreau Club provides a welcoming yet challenging environment for me to grow as a professional, a husband, a father, and a person.
My goal is to provide any support necessary so our staff are able to deliver an experience to you that goes beyond a transaction for a membership or program. No matter what part of the facility you find yourself in, we at The Thoreau Club aim to make this truly a place “Where families & friends belong.”
Wendy Hammond-Wildes
Aquatics Supervisor
Wendy Hammond-Wildes, Aquatics Supervisor
I am a Water Safety Instructor Trainer, Lifeguard Instructor, Swim Team Coach, Group Swim Lesson Manager and I have been Aquatics Supervisor at Camp Thoreau. I have worked at Thoreau for almost 14 years.
I have been a lifelong swimmer and learned to swim on a lake in Canada and at my Grandparent’s pool in NY. I also swam competitively on a rec team similar to Thoreau, and on a High School Varsity team.
I enjoy working with swimmers of all ages, giving them the confidence to do their best, try new skills, and improve their technique. I enjoy both group and private instruction. I am also happy to work on your specific goals. Maybe 2023 is the year you will swim a Triathlon, or you would like to learn a new stroke! Come and book a lesson with me for you or your child.
When I am not in the pool, I take classes and enjoy spending time with my family and our new puppy Annie.
Jordan Kennedy
Head Swim Coach
Jordan Kennedy, Head Swim Coach
My career in swimming began at a very early age competing in my first meet at four years old . I remained dedicated to the sport and later went on to compete three times on the national level at the Junior Olympic Games.
I attended the University of Missouri in Columbia (Mizzou) on a full ride academic scholarship. While swimming at the collegiate level, a career ending shoulder injury led me to pursue Bachelors of Science in Sports Medicine.
After graduating from Mizzou I returned home to pilot the competitive swimming program at Brittany Woods Middle School. I spent my summers assisting in the development of aquatic education programs throughout the St. Louis area; contributing a step-by-step dynamic lesson plan that served as a vital tool for many recreation aquatic centers. I then was recruited as a level III coach by UCSC, my former USA team. I successfully increased enrollment and retention rates during my first season. By tracking the improvement rates of several athletes, I was able to see an average +42% of athletes achieving qualifying times.
Shortly after I took on the position as Head Coach of the Varsity and Junior Varsity Girls Swim team at McCluer Senior High School for the four years to follow.
Beginning each season with introduction to water safety, my Assistant Coach and I worked diligently to progress each student athlete from novice to the competitive level.
As I concluded what would be my final season at McCluer, we carried the highest average GPA amongst all fall sports. With a dedicated group of girls , were able to reclaim our position on the podium at sectionals for the first time in over seven years.
Although my time at McCluer holds a special place in my heart, my journey must continue! I am eager and thrilled to see what this next chapter holds as the Head Coach of the Sharks here at The Thoreau Club.
Radostina Rhein

Radostina Rhein, Sharks Coaching Staff
Swimming has always been a part of my life. Starting at the age of six, I swam for my hometown team in Bulgaria, comparable to a USA swim team and continued to swim all through college. My events were 100 & 200 butterfly and 200 & 400 IM. When I moved to the United States, I connected to swimming again as a coach and a swim instructor at the West Suburban YMCA. There I was part of a coaching team for over 100 kids ages 6 through 18. I helped many of the kids with techniques and strategies of how to approach a race, as well as being a part of team.
I am a literal swim fanatic, following all the swim events closely. Last year I treated myself with a trip to see Philips 66 International Team Trials, qualifications for the Worlds in Hungary. I had to chance to meet and briefly talk to some of the coaches I admire: David Marsh, Bob Bowman, and the legendary Eddie Reese.
My family and I swim at The Thoreau Club recreationally. My son is a part of the Thoreau Sharks team and loves being in the water.
I am looking forward to connecting with swimmers and their families at The Thoreau Club, sharing my experience and passion for swimming!

I am a rising Sophomore at Maynard High School. I have swum for Thoreau Sharks for 9 years since I was 6 years old. I am a part of the Thoreau Bay State Games team and I am competing in 4 events. I am a lifeguard as well as a swim instructor at Thoreau. My favorite part of being on the Thoreau Swim Team is that I get the opportunity to coach and swim at the same time, through this I learn more than I would learn if I was just swimming. I am a multi-sport athlete and I play soccer year-round.

I have loved swimming for as long as I can remember, and have been on the swim team since I was 10. I am a certified lifeguard and have my WSI certification. I am currently attending Maynard High School, which unfortunately does not have a pool or swim team, so Thoreau is a wonderful alternative! I love working with kids and helping with the swim lessons. I hope that they will be able to enjoy the pool and Thoreau as much as I have.

I am from Weston Massachusetts, and am a father of three successful student-athletes and an active triathlete that competes in Olympic and Half Iron distances with the Boston Triathlon team. My competitive swimming career started at age 10 in suburban Philadelphia and continued through High School (North Penn) and college (Lafayette College). During many of those years, I was also a pool manager and age group swimming coach. More recently I became a head and assistant coach for my kids’ community basketball teams. I bring a philosophy of continual personal improvement and team success to the Thoreau Masters Swim program.
Carolyn Kiely

Carolyn Kiely, Swim Instructor
I was a Division 1 college swimmer for Boston College. My “strokes” for BC were the 100 yard butterfly and the 200 yard Individual Medley. I first began teaching swim lessons more than 40 years ago (true! – when I was 16), and first began teaching kids to be lifeguards not long after that (when I was 18). In college and law school, I worked for a tour company and brought clients whitewater rafting in Maine and Canada, and skiing all around New England. My swim/water safety background got me the job! I’m an environmental lawyer, but teaching kids and young adults in the water is way more fun!
Camp
Ann Marie Gallo
Camp Director
Ann Marie Gallo, Camp Director
I founded Summer’s Edge Day Camp in 1991, and my family quickly became involved in helping with the camp operations. My brother Joe, a USPTA tennis teaching professional, served as the tennis director, and our father, the late Big Tony (as he was known at camp), assisted with tennis and was a master at carving watermelon slices for special events. Our mother earned the name of Clerical Maven for all her behind-the-scenes work with paper mailers, which she loved compiling, and answering the camp telephone. During the first three decades of Summer’s Edge, we welcomed countless campers and counselors to the Summer’s Edge family. As the camp grew, the Summer’s Edge Tennis School (SETS) was founded and operated by Joe, who ran the tennis programs for youth.
During my academic career, I progressed from teaching physical education and coaching at Minuteman High School to serving as an Assistant Professor at UMass Boston. Currently, I am a full time professor at Salem State University in the Sport and Movement Science department. I teach a wide variety of courses in pedagogy and camp administration. In addition, I coordinate the undergraduate and graduate physical education teacher programs at the university. I hold a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Change from Fielding Graduate University, a Master of Education from Cambridge College, a Massachusetts Teaching License, and a B.S. in Physical Education from UMass Boston. In addition to these degrees, I am a certified Emergency Medical Technician, Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard, and CPR/FPR Instructor.
I have been the recipient of several awards, such as the Massachusetts Association of Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD) bestowed me with the prestigious Joseph McKenney Award for Distinguished and Exemplary Service and leadership in 2019. In addition, I was honored with the MAHPERD 2015 Presidential Citation Award for my contributions to MAHPERD. In 2006, I received the Presidential Citation Award acknowledging a professional whose life contributions have inspired the youth of Massachusetts within the field of physical education. During my many years working with students, I was named Teacher of the Year at Minuteman High School for the 1998 school year. In 1991 and 1996, I was named Minuteman’s Coach of the Year, and received the Gatorade Coaches Care Award in 1991.
My contention is everything I ever learned about leadership, kindness, and hard work I learned at camp as a camper, C.I.T., counselor, unit leader, director, and founder. With the belief that all that we impart at camp is truly essential for life, I think that our world can benefit from individuals demonstrating character and empathy. I am proud to have my nephews A.J. and Michael attend Summer’s Edge at Camp Thoreau.

Growing up in Acton, The Thoreau Club was always a part of every summer, from going to the pool with friends, working out, and even a tennis lesson or two. In fact, my very first job as a teenager was in the nursery (now known as Kaleidoscope) at Thoreau almost 20 years ago! In 2018 I again joined the Thoreau Club family as a part of the Member Services team, where I got to know every aspect of the Club and our fantastic members. I am thrilled to now be a part of Summers Edge at Camp Thoreau and feel honored to play a small part in its storied history. Outside of Thoreau I spend my time chasing my three young children around. In fact, you will see two of them as campers this year! Our house is also a zoo of sorts: we’ve got two dogs, a cat and over 20 chickens! My husband and I are huge Boston sports fans and we can be found watching as many live sporting events as possible.

I received my training for yoga certification from Mimi Louriello/02 Yoga and Rolf Gates and my Pilates mat, reformer and barre training from Boston Body Pilates/Balanced Body as well as Booty Barre.
I have completed a Baron Baptiste meditation and wellness program with the hopes of sharing it someday. I truly enjoy teaching diverse classes from basics to the advanced. My mat classes use props and are focused on the front and back of our core. My barre classes are spiked with cardio drills and lots of full body toning and high-rep sequences. I like to think that my classes are easy to understand, but also challenging. Anatomical cues and creative sequencing are my specialty.
As much as I love to teach, I am also a continuous student currently studying under Natasha Rizopoulous. My focus as a teacher is to explain the differences between effort and ease on the mat and how that can be applied to our lives off the mat as well. I encourage students to tap into how they feel, guiding them to take a break from the “over-thinking, busy” mind and reminding students that our bodies are our best teachers. I will always encourage students to use props and ask questions because we are all slightly different.
Currently, I am working on a yoga program for caregivers called “The Love-asana Project” and will work closely with the NAMI Organization. I love creating art, immersing myself in yoga and fitness, continuing education and raising my two children.

I am a life-long swimmer who loves sharing my love of water with Thoreau members in all I do – whether it be during my water aerobics classes, or while lifeguarding or teaching kids to be future lifeguards. I also help with the swim instruction program at Camp Thoreau, ensuring a future generation of terrific swimmers.
My “epiphany” came when I was diagnosed with breast cancer while my children were in grades 5 and 7. As a long-time environmental lawyer and Washington, DC lobbyist, my diagnosis made me rethink my life. What did I love? What did I want to share with others? It was a commitment to advocating that people do what they love, and living a healthy lifestyle while doing it. While I still practice law, it is a side aspect to my commitment to spreading joy to others, and modeling healthy living through doing what you love – especially if it involves water. My former role as a Division 1 college swimmer for Boston College provides credibility to my swimming/water advocacy role at Thoreau.
The best compliment I received was when I asked one of my water aerobics participants if she was going to Florida this winter. Her reply was, “I would miss the Thoreau Club and its people too much, so I’m not going away this winter.” If that’s my impact on Thoreau, then I have done my job!

With this in mind I offer many options for moves, and I encourage members to come to me before or after class for help with options or to let me know any concerns they have with taking the class. My goal is to have everyone leave my classes feeling longer, leaner, inspired, and confident!
I’d like to share a few tips on ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle:
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
- Know there is no perfect way to exercise, try new things – honor your body each time you exercise, knowing when to ramp up or when to slow down.

I started teaching group fitness soon after retiring from the military.
I found that fitness was driven into us from day one when we joined the military. It’s a way of life, and it’s how you succeed.
I genuinely enjoy helping people reach their true potential; over the years, the camaraderie of working out with a group has inspired each person to keep coming back.
My mission as a fitness leader is simple, to teach people to believe in themselves, to be their best, and push them outside of their comfort zone. I am an AFAA-certified Group Fitness Instructor with Certifications in Les Mills Body Pump, RPM, and Sprint.

I hold a Masters degree in Public Health from Boston University. I currently work as a Wellness Project Manager for the Massachusetts Municipal Association in Boston. I also hold a black belt in Kenpo Karate.
I have always been passionate about maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise, eating well, and managing stress, both for myself, and those around me. When I am not at work or teaching Pilates, I enjoy traveling to exotic places and spending time with my family and friends.

I have been a registered yoga teacher since 2008, acquiring many specialties along the way. In addition to yoga, I am an NSCA-certified personal trainer, an acupressure practitioner, a Titleist Fitness Professional for golf, and have studied anatomy, therapeutics and functional movement for years. Having grown up an athlete, I have a passion for studying the ways that different movement modalities can help us find vibrancy and balance in our whole beings. Ultimately, all of these modalities offer us tools to put in our toolkit of life, helping us find ease through whatever life presents. My classes are approachable and playful, yet rooted in functional movement and the great inquiry of the self.

As a recreational runner and cyclist, my workout buddies would joke that my favorite pace was “talking pace”. I always struggled to enjoy swimming because having a morning chat is so hard in the water! I started teaching spin in 2014 when I moved to Boston to pursue my MBA. I love the energizing music, the pouring sweat and having the accountability to show up at a class. My classes are challenging but achievable, no matter where your base level is.
I’ve dabbled in my share of marathons, triathlons, and even an Ironman. These days, you’ll find me chasing my 2 & 4 year old, trail running with my 2 dogs, or trying to corral my small flock of chickens. When I’m not teaching a morning class, I’m a nonprofit consultant working towards social and financial justice.

I started taking Zumba classes in 2014 and loved every minute of it. Being able to let loose and dance for an hour became my stress relief. I knew I wanted to follow my passion with Zumba and got licensed to teach in 2020.
I have a way of making my students feel comfortable and not pressured if they don’t get all the right steps; I just want them to keep moving and have fun. Knowing that my students are smiling and having a good time always puts a smile on my face.
Did you know you can burn between 500-900 calories during a high-intensity Zumba class? Attending my Zumba class will make you feel like you are at a dance party while getting a good workout in. I create an environment that is a judgment-free zone, and I make a connection with all my students to make everyone feel welcome. You will love my upbeat personality and positive energy. Give my class a try and you will have a blast!
Zumba is my happy place and hopefully yours too!

I started practicing yoga in my 20s, and got hooked on the way it balanced my running and strength training. I have to say that I was the most inflexible person in the class, and so to this day, I like to call my classes- Yoga for Stiff People- because yoga is for everyone!
Yet, I want you to understand that yoga is more than just an exercise to increase flexibility. Yoga can, and will, help alleviate stress from both your body and your mind if you practice it with attention to the breath and with a sense of mindfulness.
I am trained in Hatha style yoga (from Shoshoni Yoga Ashram outside of Boulder, CO) and have my YA teacher’s certification. I’ve also taught a variety of yoga classes (over 5,000 classes) from slow and restorative to hot and sweaty flow yoga, in the last 16 years. Any and every one of my yoga classes is targeted for the people who show up to class. Come regularly to my class, and we will build a yoga program for you!
You will notice my classes are light hearted and fun, as I never take myself (or yoga) too seriously. I emphasize alignment and like to throw in some “extra credit” challenges (which can always be modified or completely ignored).
Not everyone is flexible, but EVERYONE can, and should, practice yoga. There is no such thing as a yoga body or a yoga type. And as a yoga teacher, my greatest interest is to get to know each of my students, in order to help them feel better in their bodies, both physically and emotionally—facilitated by their yoga practice.

I often joke that I’m the one instructor that teaches everywhere we hold classes: I teach Yoga, Aqua Fit, Strength & Balance, Core, and Cycle. And when I’m not teaching, you can find me on the Tennis Courts playing on the CMITA C Team, taking lessons or playing matches. When people ask if I work, I forget to say “yes” because teaching at Thoreau never feels like work! It just feels like the place where I belong, and get to come “play” with members in the form of leading a class.
When I’m not at Thoreau, I’m quite busy driving my boys to and from school, Jazz Band, drum lessons, skiing, and a variety of sports practices and games. There are a LOT of miles on my car!
I started teaching Yoga (I completed my 200 hour YTT in 2014, and my 500 YTT in 2016) and Spinning several years ago. Prior to that, I was an attorney in D.C. specializing in Mutual Fund Law (now THAT felt like work!). Those were also the days of my distance running and the start of my yoga practice – which kept me sane & flexible. When we moved here in 2003, I stayed home for 11 wonderful years raising my two boys.
I am so grateful to be a part of the talented and dedicated Thoreau Group Fitness team, and to be able to spend so many hours of my week in the company of members who feel like friends.

I am originally from New York and settled in Massachusetts in the late 80’s, and I’ve never looked back! I enjoy many outdoor activities including mountain biking, paddle boarding, cross country skiing, and hiking with my dogs.
I also have two sons who keep me on my toes. My favorite book is Glass Houses by Jeannette Walls and my favorite movie is Fried Green Tomatoes.
I consider a day at Wingaersheek Beach paradise and Girls Night Out heavenly. I enjoy traveling and have been to Greece and France!
I enjoy taking advantage of the many classes offered at The Thoreau Club, including Pilates, Cycling, Power & Yoga Classes. I also play on a competitive Thoreau Club tennis team. I appreciate being able to play where I work and work where I play!

I graduated from Bancroft School of Massage Therapy in 2010. During my time at Bancroft I completed over 750 hours of classroom studies and hands-on techniques.
My main area of focus was Anatomy and Physiology. I am well versed in many areas of massage therapy such as deep tissue, Swedish, hot stones and sports injuries. I hold a certificate in pre and post-natal massage. I am board certified and licensed by the State of Massachusetts.
I believe that the power of human touch is extremely therapeutic to everyone who receives it. I also believe that self-care is one of the most important things one can do for themselves. Massage is not only about relaxing but it helps to lessen anxiety, improve circulation, improve condition of the largest muscle (your skin), helps to enhance your immunity system and improves sleep.

I have been practicing and perfecting my massage therapy techniques since 2004. My massage experience encompasses a range of work, from spa treatments to working with cancer patients. I specialize in Relaxation Massage, Deep Tissue, Myofascial, Hot Stone Therapy, Reflexology, and Herbal Poultice. I strive to help my clients achieve optimum health and wellness through my massage techniques. I continue to study various healing modalities and I’m passionate about helping others with the power of touch.
I have worked in numerous settings including my own practice, hospice, physical therapy office, Burbank Hospital, a breast cancer center in Harvard, MA, and Wellness Spas.
In my downtime, I enjoy kayaking, skiing, and hiking with my two dogs.

I am an industry veteran, having played tennis since I was a young boy growing up in Italy. As a high-performance junior tennis player, I was recruited to train at the world-famous Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida and went on to play professionally on the tour. Returning to Italy to attend university, I graduated and returned to the world of tennis as a coach, Director of High Performance Tennis and Director of Tennis at the Aspria Harbour Club Milano, in Milan. During that time, I captained a team of world-ranked players including Omar Camporese (No. 18), Claudio Mezzadri (No. 26) and Paolo Cané (No. 26).
In 2013, I was recruited by the prestigious Tennis Corporation of America to become the General Manager of the Midtown Club in Weston, Florida.
Throughout my career, I was the Founder and Organization Director of the Aspria Harbour Club ATP Milan International Tennis Tournament, as well as the Founder of the International Swim Meet, both events attracting top players and athietes from all over the world.

Born and raised in Plymouth, Massachusetts, I am a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served aboard the USS John F. Kennedy CV-67.
Prior to joining The Thoreau Club staff, I worked for nine years as the Head Pro at The Woodlands Club in Falmouth, Maine. I served on the Maine Tennis Association’s Board of Directors, and Executive Board of Directors from 2007 until 2018. I had the honor of being named the USTA Volunteer of the Year for the state of Maine and coaching the University of Southern Maine Men’s Tennis Team.
As a PTR Certified Tennis Professional with over a decade of experience teaching Juniors and Adults, beginner to nationally ranked, I passionately work with all abilities in an effort to advance every student to their full potential. As an enthusiastic supporter of the USTA, I have thoroughly enjoyed my extensive experience in the USTA Adult and Junior Programs as a Competitor, Captain, Assistant, Coordinator, Tournament Director, and Volunteer.
“Why” I choose to teach tennis is more important than any of my achievements. I strive to develop the person and not just the ability. Using the medium of tennis I infuse topics such as physics, mathematics, philosophy, problem-solving, kindness, and the list goes on. I believe through this amazing game a person can develop a higher level of character, a deeper understanding of themselves, and, specifically, children can learn to become self-sufficient. Being an avid cyclist, I enjoy the benefits the sport offers for its cross-training and meditative qualities. I have completed rides and races of varying distances including a grueling one-day, 78-mile-ride over three mountain passes in the Rocky Mountains, peaking out at an altitude of over 11,000 feet.
Come drop into the Pro Shop and say hi! I’d love to chat about tennis, Navy, biking or whatever fits the day.

I’m originally from Litchfield, Connecticut. I’ve been living in Cambridge, MA for many years. After graduating from St. Michael’s College, participating in both the Swimming and Tennis team, I began my tennis career at the Weston Racquet Club in 2008.
I am a USPTA certified professional with experience teaching and training players of all ages from 4 to 75 years old. I love to train technique and strategy for all levels of the game. I also enjoy improving my own tennis game.
Some years ago I injured my hitting (right) arm in a car accident. After playing on my injured arm for a while and never getting back to “normal,” I decided to make a change. I decided that if I was going to enjoy my own tennis game pain-free, that I should try to teach myself to play left-handed. I’ve been grinding away the past few years learning a new left-handed game. Learning to play with my non-dominant hand has given me a great understanding of stroke technique and player development. It’s given me a unique perspective on learning the game from the ground up.
If I’m not playing tennis then I’m probably trying to sneak in 9-holes of golf somewhere.

With both parents very involved in tennis (my father was national Davis cup team coach for 10 years), I started playing as soon as I could stand up and hold a racquet. By the age of 6, I started to compete in local city tournaments, and by 12, I made it on the top regional and national teams. Traveling all over Morocco and southern Europe to compete, I was able to reach a ranking of 8th in Morocco by the time I graduated from high school. I attended Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania, and ranked 5th nationally in Division II tennis. I helped my team win their conference and reach Nationals three years in a row.
After transferring to Washington College, a small liberal arts school in Maryland, I served as an assistant coach, helping the men’s team reach the national tournament. I also turned around the women’s team to give them a winning season, which helped them win their conference for the first time in 10 years.
I also coached Washington’s #1 women’s doubles team to Nationals. While at Washington College, I headed the teaching program for the town of Chestertown Maryland, which had around 200 active members. After leaving Chestertown , I worked in Connecticut and then Winchester MA, where I was the assistant Tennis director at Winchester CC for five seasons. I also served as the Director at Booth Bay Harbor Yacht Club, and Tennis Director at Ferncroft CC in Middleton MA. I joined the Nashawtuc Country Club in March of 2011.

I have been a tennis pro right out of college teaching at major clubs in Massachusetts and Florida.
My father Ian Fletcher was Head tennis Pro at Thoreau for 23 years and I am very proud to follow in his footsteps. He reached a world ranking of 40 in singles and played in all major events. I am passionate about teaching tennis and working with all levels and ages.

I am a professional-level collegiate tennis player from Czech Republic. Born and raised in a small Czech Republic mountain town, I reached an impressive national ranking of #53 and #2 in the region at the young age of 16. With this success, I was recruited and enjoyed a full-ride scholarship to U.S-based South Carolina, Francis Marion University. As a top and highly recognized women’s athlete there, I was honored to serve as Francis Marion’s Women’s Tennis #1 player. I was also recognized and honored as a three-time Division II All-American women’s tennis player and two time most valuable player. I was then again honored as a two-time U.S. Peach Belt Conference Women’s Player of the Week and one time “Player to Watch” in U.S. collegiate women’s tennis. My leadership and talents were further highlighted when I was nominated and served as Francis Marion’s Captain in my two final seasons.
Post-graduation, I assumed the role of tennis pro at Florida-based Saddlebrook Tennis academy. There I took a leadership role as a lead tennis professional where I coached and trained academy high performance juniors. Along with this, I managed and led industry-critical adult tennis programs that have helped to drive USTA adult tennis engagement and participation.
After my career in Florida, I was offered an excellent career opportunity that brought me to the Northeast. Here I proudly assumed a leadership role as a tennis professional at the Kingsbury Tennis Club in Medfield, Massachusetts – a position with a timeline fall to spring. With this assignment, I was offered a summer position as the Tennis Director at the prestigious Castine Golf and Tennis Club in Castine, Maine, where I led a successful tennis program for kids and adults. Still at the Kingsbury Club, I led two teams to division victory at the honored Dorothy Bruno Hills Indoor Tennis League and one team at the Central Mass Indoor Association.
My expertise is in coaching and training young and developing juniors, high performance juniors, as well as high performance and avid adult athletes. Clients admire my expertise, professionalism and knowledge of the sport, game, and the training pathway of tennis at all levels.
When off court, I enjoy running, mountain biking, skiing, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends. I have a degree in marketing and speak three languages (Czech, English, and German).

My first exposure to tennis was through a free tennis clinic offered during the summers in my neighborhood in Jersey City, New Jersey. My family had recently immigrated from Santa Cruz, Bolivia so in the spirit of trying out new experiences, I was also the first in my family to pick tennis as my sport instead of soccer. I played throughout high school both at McNair Academic High School and Roselle Park High School and spent time training at the Club de Tenis back home in Bolivia. While I chose to not play tennis during University, I kept my passion for the sport by working as a tennis instructor for Super Duper Tennis LLC, a tennis company focused on putting on “fun” in fundamentals to aspiring tennis juniors in Hoboken, New Jersey, and serving as an assistant coach for the women’s tennis team at my alma mater, Kean University. I moved from the Garden State to Massachusetts to continue my studies, keeping my connection to the sport in a variety of ways. I play on the Tennis On Campus team at Brandeis University during my graduate studies, with one of my favorite memories being our bid to Nationals in Orlando, Florida. Outside of University, I compete in a variety of different tennis leagues including USTA Men’s, two USTA Mixed leagues, Tri-Level, CMITA, and WTT having gone to sectionals, districts, and nationals. Ask me about joining the USTA Social League for those of you who want to meet new people, play some tennis, and overall have fun.
Tennis has been one of my great mentors during my lifetime, and I have learned so much from playing and competing: sportsmanship, dedication, and accountability. My goal is to instill those traits into the players I work with and help them develop into independent athletes, each with their own style and flair. Off the court, I am PhD candidate in Neuroscience at Brandeis University where I study circuit development in the visual cortex. I completed my B.S. in Molecular Biology & Chemistry and M.S. in Biotechnology. When I am not in the lab or on court, I enjoy running – preparing for my first marathon! –, reading, and learning new languages; I am fluent in English and Spanish with a growing mastery over French.

Hello Thoreau family! Thanks for stopping by the wall of fame to learn a little bit more about the team at Thoreau which I have recently become a part of. I was born and raised in Maynard, MA and I am proud to share that I have been a lifelong member here at Thoreau. Attending summer camp, learning to swim and how to play tennis are just a few experiences I have had here. I graduated from Bryant University with a B.S in Business Administration and competed for 4 years as a member of the Bryant Baseball team. Some of my favorite memories come from the long travel days for away games, visiting places I otherwise wouldn’t have visited; Oregon and Louisiana to name a few. Although my baseball career is over, I can still be found attempting to remain athletic in our awesome fitness facility or on the courts resurrecting my tennis career. I’m always open and willing to take on any challengers! In my free time, I love all things sports. I enjoy going to as many Red Sox games as I can, and whenever playoffs come to town, I make it a priority to attend. A lifetime goal of mine is to attend a game at all 30 Major League Ballparks. My newest hobby I have taken up is wine-making. Every so often I like to try my hand at something new. Prior to working for Thoreau, I worked as a manager at Target. I met some amazing people and learned an immense amount about customer service. I am excited to start this new endeavor at Thoreau and look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. Please feel free to find me with any questions, concerns or just a friendly chat!
