Camp PROGRAMS

Pre-K & Kindergarten

Our youngest campers will find a magical experience at Summer’s Edge at Camp Thoreau!

Neverland

Neverland campers will take their first steps into the exciting world of Summer’s Edge at Camp Thoreau. Neverland campers participate in modified versions of our camp curriculum, tailored to the appropriate physical and developmental levels. Small groups and low camper-to-counselor ratios (5:1) make for the ideal setting for our campers as they learn new skills, meet new friends, and have fun!

1st & 2nd Graders

We help foster independence and critical thinking skills through our thoughtful, proven curriculum.

Timberland

Timberland campers begin exploring friendship and all its facets: how to treat others with care and kindness, how to cooperate in groups, and a thoughtful introduction to the concept of personal responsibility. Timberland campers enjoy low camper-to-counselor ratios (5:1) and are placed in co-ed groups. Timberland campers are guided through select activities that lay the foundation for future challenges.

3rd & 4th Graders

Welcome to a world of possibilities at Summer’s Edge at Camp Thoreau!

Wildlife Valley

Wildlife Valley campers often arrive each summer eager to embrace a developing spirit of independence. Our purpose is to help foster and cultivate that spirit while exploring the themes of personal responsibility, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Activities such as shelter building and fire making are introduced and explored.

5th & 6th Graders

Campers are given guided opportunities to practice good sportsmanship, communication, and teamwork in an exciting group setting.

Forest Ridge

Forest Ridge campers continue practicing sportspersonship and teamwork. Through teamwork, they learn to contribute to their group and appreciate each other’s strengths while celebrating their differences. They are also working toward being respectful communicators and learning how to be a fair and welcoming friend. Guided by our skilled instructors, Forest Ridge campers embark upon new challenges on the high ropes course.

7th & 8th Graders

Our oldest campers have earned their rank and are ready to explore expanded programming.

Summit

Summit campers have earned their rank as our oldest campers. As role models for the younger campers they strive to be collaborative as they practice good citizenship. The focus is on respecting themselves, others, and the environment. They are ready for extended time on our high ropes courses and zipline, and are leaders within our camp-wide special events.

9th & 10th Graders

The Counselor In Training (CIT) program is designed to help develop young teens into leaders.

CIT Program

Open to former Summer’s Edge and Camp Thoreau campers only, the primary focus of the CIT Program is on learning how to responsible for others. There are two distinct levels within our CIT program:

Rising 9th graders may still have one foot in the world of day camp while also possessing the desire to do more. The CIT I program will help campers transition from camper to leader and begins to equip them with the tools necessary to take on added responsibility.

Rising 10th graders observe and take a more active role in working with a group of campers and counselor. CITs will be placed in groups and work with both group counselors and program areas throughout their session.

Both the CIT I and CIT II programs are by application and require a minimum of a 4-week commitment.

CITs will also enjoy dedicated group time with their fellow CITs and their CIT Mentor as they develop leadership skills and comradery. CITs are offered free-swim only and part of their training may include assisting with instructional swim.
