Many people believe that swimming should be the first sport that a child should learn. Swimming lessons begin as young as 6 months and continues throughout your life. The reasons we take swim lessons change as we age, children learn how they can be safe, athletes learn how they can improve the efficiency of their strokes, and adults learn how they can stay healthy. Aquatic programs have created classes for people of all ages to keep them engaged in the aquatics world. An Aquatic departments most important purpose is to teach kids how to be safe in and around water. The best way to teach kids how to swim is by enrolling them in a year-round swim program starting at a young age. Year-round swimming is important to ensure that children are consistently practicing and growing their swimming skills. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children as young as one year old can benefit from swimming lessons. Swim teams are where we train athletes in the technical aspects the competitive sport of swimming. Swimming teaches athletes dedication, leadership, and a healthy lifestyle. College admission departments see that a student swam for many years and shows the admission representative dedication. Many people compete in swimming many years past college with a US masters swim team, others might swim laps at their local pool, or they may take a water fitness class. It is important that you continue swimming throughout your life to improve strength, flexibility, and well-being. The water is the best place to work out because of the low impact on your bones and joints. Everyday I see the difference the pool can make, my friend Claire had to walk with a cane, after increasing her attendance in water fit classes she now says the cane is for fashion only.
