The Thoreau Club's Summer Weather Policy: Outdoor Safety Guidelines in Concord, MA

Summer is the most dangerous time of year for deaths and injuries due to lightning strikes. As we enter the outdoor season at The Thoreau Club, we want to inform you of our outdoor weather policies.

Outdoor  Pool

 •In the event of thunder or lightning, the pools, whirlpools, splash park, playground, and pool deck will be cleared and closed for 30 minutes.
•All swimmers and members must clear the area immediately and will be directed inside.
•Lifeguards must come down from their posts and stay away from tall objects.
•The facility will reopen after 30 minutes of no further thunder or lightning.

 Tennis Courts

 •In the event of thunder or lightning, the tennis courts will be cleared and closed for
30 minutes.
•All players and members must clear the area immediately and will be directed inside.
•The courts will reopen after 30 minutes of no further thunder or lightning.

Remember! Just because you can't see a thunderstorm doesn't mean it cannot be dangerous. Lightning can travel up to 50 miles horizontally before making contact.
